Creating a model in Fincanva is a core part of building your investment strategy. A model defines how capital is allocated across a specific set of assets using defined rules. Models can be customized, reused, and combined within portfolios for simulation or live analysis.
Currently models can only be created within a portfolio page.
1. Open or create a portfolio
Models live inside portfolios. Start by opening an existing portfolio or creating a new one where you want to add the model.
2. Add a model
Click Add Model in the portfolio editor to create a new model from scratch. You can also choose Load from template to use a saved model or Save as to duplicate and edit an existing one.
3. Name your model
Give your model a clear and descriptive name (required). You can also add a short description (optional) to explain the model’s strategy or focus.
4. Set the rebalance frequency
Choose how often the model should update its holdings (e.g., monthly, quarterly). This determines when the model recalculates allocations and adjusts positions.
5. Select your asset universe
Choose between using All available assets or a Selected subset.
6. (Optional) Insert screening rules (in and out)
You can further refine your selection using screeners:
Screen In – include only assets that meet specific criteria.
Screen Out – exclude assets based on filters like volatility, sector, or price.
7. Define allocation settings
Customize how the model allocates capital across assets:
Maximum Positions – limit how many assets the model can hold at once.
Leverage – set your desired exposure (e.g., 0.5x, 1x, 2x).
Decide how capital will be distributed among your assets. Common methods include Equal Weights, Fixed Weights, or more advanced techniques like Risk Parity or MPT. If you activate risk management, you can also set different allocations methods for “risk-on” and “risk-off” states.

8. (Optional) Enable risk-off management
You can activate dynamic risk rules that adjust allocations based on market signals or thresholds. You can define risk management rules in the "Model risk management" accordion

9. (optional) Set advanced parameters
Fine-tune your model with additional controls:
Maximum Holding Period – limit how long any asset can stay in the model.
Maximum Open Positions – set a cap on total active trades.
Reinvestment Delay – define a cooling-off period before reinvesting in a recently sold asset.
Stop Loss / Take Profit – automatically exit positions based on performance thresholds.
Once you’ve configured all settings, click Save Model or Save portfolio. You can now use it within your portfolio for simulations, monitoring, or further customization.
